I just wanted to post a short blurb this morning and give a shout out to all those enlisted in the military, the spouses of our service women and men, and the families of those serving and have served. Everyday life is run completely different than a normal civilian….the stresses, the worries etc. For those of you who don’t know…..it’s incredibly tough.

As a former marine wife (my first marriage), and my Dad in the air force….I can relate to all of you out there. Now, I was still a kid when my dad was still serving…..but my Mom would tell me countless stories of planning the wedding, getting married, then raising us kids while my Dad was serving. These stories soothed my anxiety when I got married for the first time at the young age of 22. We were young and in love, and as a marine whose M.O. was infantry, we knew a deployment was coming.

…..and it did.

So we did what most others do….had a small civil ceremony and then planned on having the big wedding after he returned. However, even planning a civil ceremony was tough because he was out of town so much, and I was rarely able to speak with him. I know many who can vouch for me…..but planning anything when your spouse or significant other is in the military is futile. Plans are non-existent, because your time really isn’t yours.

Now, my marriage only lasted a year, and years later here I am married to a fabulous man and am over the moon. He grew up with both parents in the military, so even though he never was in the service himself, he has a special place in his heart for all those who have served as well. While my marriage was a short one; my respect for military wives, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends etc. grew even more (on top of the respect that I already had). It takes a lot of strength and patience…..and for that I tip my hat to you.
